The article basically says Firefox isn’t ditching open source but I (the author) feel like the new terms are anti-open source?

I suggest you look it up in detail, my memory on the details are not only hazzy, I never looked that deep into it, beyond “well thats shitty, rip Anker”.

but the TDLR; A few years back Eufy (owned by Anker), they didn’t tell anyone video was stored on the cloud, and then it turned out the live video stream was exposed to the open web. Initial response was lack-luster and Anker didn’t own up to anything.

Its been a few years, possible things are different. Also possible initial issues were blown out of proportion, and I never heard any of the “corrections” no one ever makes.

It’s in its early days, but consumerrights.wiki has potential to become a very valuable place to check before buying anything. The summery there is much better.

I’ve been very happy with UGreen as a replacement to Anker, after the Eufy thing. Have not tried a power bank yet, but the charger and cables have held up so far.

The notifications are rough too, a big wall of white text against a burry multicolor background is not fun to read.

Forgot about the window size thing, I looked up the setting to make it open normally.

I know I’m defeating the purpose by undoing some of the settings, but I’d rather the defaults be set for privacy and I disable the few that are overbearing/hindering my use. Never did use containers, so I didn’t know it was bad.

I am curious why Librewolf isn’t for you?

Overall I’ve had no issue with librewolf. It’s runs just like Firefox without some of the bloat. The very few sites I’ve found don’t work, don’t work on FF either (usually payment/online stores with popups and shit). Download whatever extension, change the settings and even sign into Firefox cloud. Yes, you’ll make your “fingerprint” more unique but, the other security improvemts/defaults make it a worthy trade off.

Biggest annoyance is by default cookies/logged in sites are wiped on close. That can easily be changed globally, or white list what you want to save site settings for. Signing out of websites is a good habit anyway, especially ones with payment attached.

The neat part is there’s a lot options to pick from, some of them are doing cool things like the one outta Japan Floorp looks interesting.

The biggest thing for me is it looks like they are finally giving us back more than 4 quick settings in the notification pull down. They’ll probably mess it up somehow, but one can dream right?

Piracy will always be a problem, someone is always looking for the free route. The paid routes used to be guarantees of availability, malware free, and a quality copy. Now its almost the opposite, a pirated file is always available, usually malware free and higher resolution than whatever the data mining services feel like feeding you.

Don’t people buy stuff on OF, more than just a sub? Is it easily available for download in a common file format or is access stuck on the website even though you bought it?

I agree that straight piracy of content is bad. Piracy is primarily a service problem, TV and movie piracy was down in the mid 2010s until all the streaming services divided. Music piracy is basically gone thanks to early iTunes and even more so with today’s streaming services. OF piracy will always be a thing because people want their free porn and the parasocial relationship they don’t get on the regular free sites.

If corporations refuse to just sell us the file and can randomly revoke access or change the content (like Amazon’s been doing with book), then the community will find ways to strip out the DRM and other protections just to preserve the content they bought.

I don’t have a problem with github removing of projects that aim to circumvent purchasing content, but projects that simply “unlock” purchased content should be allowed to thrive.

Edit: I should add, if corporations can’t be bothered to respect what the word buy means, why I should I bother to provide them money? morality is a two way street, if one side is dishonest and shady, do they really have a right to whine when others steal from them?

Edit 2: in case it wasn’t clear the “dishonest and shady” one is the corporations. Its to the point were I pretty much only pay creators directly (patreon, etc) where I know good chunk of my money goes to the artist not the publisher/middle man. If I’m buying a movie or something its either a DVD or getting screen caped on the first watch for archival purposes.

And yeah android does have a lockdown button, if you press and hold the power button, its in the options.

Alternatively you can quickly spam the wrong finger over the sensor a few times until it requires the pass code, which will work for iOS too.
